Last Thursday, PBMTI hosted our first ever networking event, a happy hour for music therapists! The SoFlo (South Florida) Music Therapy Professionals Happy Hour was advertised through social media and email with a goal of uniting music therapy professionals throughout the Martin, Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami/Dade counties. MT-BC’s from various backgrounds and specialties got together over some margaritas and fish tacos to talk about IEP’s, hospital policies and just how great it is to be a music therapist. It didn’t take long for the group to start planning the next get together – in Miami!
As fun as it was to get together with old friends and make some new ones, networking events also serve another purpose – the preservation and fortitude of our career. Meeting with other like-minded professionals strengthens and inspires us as a group and helps us to better represent our field and community. Our vision at PBMTI is to keep this new tradition of networking alive and well as the field of music therapy grows in numbers, popularity and respect. We are proud to be a part of this wonderful field and look forward to being involved in its’ continued success.
