One of my favorite populations to work with is stroke survivors (not victims, survivors). There are so many opportunities for cognitive, social and physical gain that improved quality of life is almost guaranteed. Over years of music therapy sessions I have witnessed those living with the effects of a stroke sing entire songs, memorize entire songs, play piano, drums, and recorder, and display improved gait just from walking to the beat of a song. The self-confidence that is gained from these interventions is the best result a therapist could ever hope to see. While the video below does not specifically reference the involvement of a board certified music therapist, imagine the outcome if someone specifically trained to elicit these positive responses were in charge. Endless possibilities.
